What Does It Take To Throw A Fabulous Party?

Well,  I will tell any and everyone you need a theme. I always ask my clients what is your theme? Most times I get a dead stare…”Theme…hmmm… I don’t know, do I need a theme?”

YES! You need a theme. A theme allows you to remain focused on how to plan your party, the favors you will have, the menu, your attire and the atmosphere, whether casual or formal.

Now, a theme doesn’t have to mean a character (if for example you are having a child’s birthday party), it could be something as simple as colors, or a season. Having a fall party in the dead of winter can be tons of fun better yet a summer party in winter. It may take some creative planning and thinking but if you live in a cold climate where winter is long-lived having a summer party in winter may be just what old man winter needs to vacate nature.

Once you have established a theme the next thing that you will need to do will be securing a venue that fits your theme and of course your budget. Never spend more than you can afford. Who wants to be paying for a party months and years after it has happened? Parties can be costly; however it is up to you to make sure you remain within your budget limits.

That leads me to my next point, ask yourself “How much I can afford to spend on my party” and realistically answer that question, no fluffs or rainbows here, just mathematical figures, period! Some may argue that this should be your first course of action. Determining what you can spend and frankly I agree, but why start with the obvious? Would you dare to continue reading had my first line written was ” What can you afford” It is the obvious question that many refuse to ask while others ask but never take the time to think it through clearly. Everyone wants a fabulous party but don’t think that fabulous can be on a budget. I am here to tell you, YES YOU CAN! Don’t try to live up to the Jones when it is hard enough living up to being YOU!

BUDGET, THEME, VENUE, What’s next? Menu! What will you be serving at your party will it be light appetizers, dinner, lunch , brunch, tea, coffee, sweets??? Again the menu goes back to your theme. I believe that your guests should clearly pick up your theme from the moment they receive their invitations and it builds from there; when they walk into the venue, to the food they are offered, the music and or games/activities/festivities involved.

What about your invitations? Yes, they are important but I leave in until this point for a very important reason. You cannot send out an evite if you plan on having a formal event, it just does not fit. Therefore establishing the budget, theme, venue and menu will help you determine what kind of invitation you will send out.

Once you have decided on your invitation. The next on the list is sending out the invitation with enough time to give your guests time to plan out their schedule to attend your party. Nothing is more thoughtless then receiving an invitation the week before or the week of the event. Really, do you value your family and friends time? Furthermore would you have effectively plan for a party that gives such short notice? A good party required some time in planning it, anything less isn’t worth inviting or attending. Sounds cruel but how do you think your potential guests will feel receiving an invite within such a short time frame?

Finally, the day of your party is here and all you need to do now is enjoy! Even if you have to manage the party, take time to enjoy it. No sense planning and having a party that you yourself do not enjoy. In that respect you can call us and leave the managing to us :).
